ABB is charging for the future of electric cars

Source:Updated:2017-12-07 08:16:29

Abb group chief executive, Dr Shi BiFu recently announced report, held in Bonn, Germany, the United Nations framework convention on climate change 23 session of the conference of the parties (COP) 23 provides policymakers with a good opportunity, initiative through popularizing the electric car, speed up the sustainable transportation.

China recently became the fifth country in the world to announce a phase-out of fossil fuel vehicles. China, like the already vocal UK, France, Norway and India, will push the international community to meet the goals set out in the Paris climate agreement. China is pushing for the adoption of zero-emission electric vehicles and the power generation and grid of renewable energy.

The 195 parties to the Paris climate agreement meet in Bonn, Germany, to participate in the 23rd conference of the parties, and policymakers have the opportunity to work together to further promote the development of electric vehicles worldwide. With the breakthrough of electric vehicle technology, a large number of new electric vehicles will be put into market in the next three years, and the provision of supporting charging facilities has become the focus of attention. To make electric cars a truly sustainable mode of transportation, recharging stations must use renewable energy.

The application of new technologies has strongly promoted the adoption of electric vehicles by policy makers. In the medium term, in view of the electric car production to increase the price drop quickly, electric cars cost will not be higher than that of conventional cars, and lower the cost to promote the electric car is more popular with consumers.

Batteries are one of the key technologies for electric vehicles. With the increase in battery efficiency and global demand, battery prices will become more affordable. Thanks to a new generation of battery technology, electric vehicles can range up to 300 kilometers (187 miles). At the same time, the new high-power charging technology reduces the charging time to more than a few minutes, and is free of the restrictions on the popularization of electric cars in the past.

The next question is where to find the charging station? Consumers are concerned about, if purchased electric vehicles as the main tool of personal mobility, so no matter how far away from home, can be like now looking for gas stations to find if there is any charging stations. This is also the focus of current policy makers' push for the development of electric transport.

As a technical leader, ABB is committed to the development of power charging technologies for electric vehicles, the power of charging systems to connect to the grid, and the promotion of renewable energy generation and networking technologies. In that area, ABB and several other companies have teamed up with transportation authorities to build a fast charging network for electric vehicles, electric buses and other electric vehicles. As of now, ABB has applied cloud-based charging solutions in more than 50 countries around the world, and can seamlessly manage the charging flow, information flow and payment flow in real time.

Despite the industry's readiness, policymakers are still needed to support the development of the electric car industry. If we work together, we will be able to apply renewable energy to electric vehicles through smart grids, thus transforming the way to sustainable transportation.

Many policymakers recognize the new value of electric cars for the environment, public health and the economy. As a result, governments have launched preferential policies such as subsidies and rebates to encourage consumers to buy electric cars that meet the standards. At the same time, investment in supporting infrastructure should not be ignored.

Progress in the field is still slow. Data from EAFO, Europe's new energy watchdog, show that there are only about 120, 000 non-domestic charging stations across the eu. In the United States, although pure electric vehicles and gas-electric hybrids have sold more than half a million vehicles, there are only about 16, 000 non-home charging stations.

China is one of the most aggressive countries in the world to promote electric cars, selling more than 350, 000 electric vehicles last year alone. China aims to build 800,000 charging stations by the end of 2107 and plans to build a charging network to meet the needs of five million electric vehicles by 2020.

There is also a history of electric cars.

In 1885, Karl Benz invented the first gasoline engine powered by a gasoline engine in mannheim, Germany. At the same time, other European inventors were inspired by lead-acid batteries and are developing the earliest electric cars.

In the first 20 years of the auto industry, battery-powered cars have outsold fossil fuel-powered vehicles, such as those invented by bentz. But major improvements such as mufflers and starters have changed the situation, with fuel cars gaining the upper hand. Meanwhile, with the rise of petrochemicals and other petrochemical companies, the sale of oil has led to the emergence of petrol stations that have sprung up in the mass market.

Now, with new advances in battery technology, the advantages of electric cars are reproducing. Despite the consumers will and other strong market support, but still needed to change the traditional public policy station dominant market status quo, to ensure rapid and orderly replace conventional cars for electric cars. A new round of government action is moving in the right direction.

In many areas, we can and must do something, such as tax breaks for rechargeable investment projects; International standard of charging agreement; Provide additional financial support for the r&d of high-power charging technology; It even forced the installation of charging facilities at existing gas stations, especially at high speed stations.

The rapid development of science and technology has created new historical opportunities for us to achieve development without overconsuming the earth's resources. We must work together to use smart grids to connect rechargeable cars with renewable energy. The growing influence of fossil fuels on the environment and public health is increasing, and new and upgraded ways of travel are imperative. To achieve green transportation, clean up air pollution in cities, and to say goodbye to greenhouse gas emissions, we look forward to this day.
